For those of you who don't know Dave, here he is in all his glory.



Meet Dave, the Gallery 9 mascot and general watch dog of the shop. A 6 year old, 12 pound Italian Greyhound rescued from the Italian Greyhound Rescue by Gallery 9 owner Julie, who happens to be my sister, so Dave is my nephew? Yeah, I'll go with that.

It's tough to be sleeping all day and then have to work as a model. Just ask him, he will most likely yawn at you and act unaffected by your attention.

I saved my two favorite photos for last....mmmmm just like ice cream!

And if I do say so myself, I totally captured the true Dave in this picture...

The artist statement

We ask all the artists in Gallery 9 to provide us with their artist statement. This short piece of writing defines who they are and why they paint as told in their voice.

I have to say how much I enjoy reading these pieces. The chance to learn the driving force behind a person's creativity is always quite interesting.

When clients come into the gallery and are interested in a piece, we give them a copy of the artist statement. Sometimes this statement creates a bond with the potential collector--all from a short piece of writing.

If you're an artist considering submitting to a gallery, be sure to have an artist statement written. It really completes your submission package.

As promised, here are some new shots from the gallery.

Here is an oil entitled, you guessed it, "Caramels and Peppermints" by Vanessa St Laurent.
Wonderful new bracelets by Nancy MacCallum. Trust us, you need to have one of these. They are just lovely, unique, hand made treasures!

A new artist for us, A S Donovan who has a loose, painterly style. On the left, a Paris Metro Map followed by two rural scenes. A delight.

Nancy Bacevich is also new to the gallery and she does wonderful pastels. Her figures are captivating and she does take commissions for portraiture.

These are a joy to see in person! Ann Gorbett, another artist new to the gallery, created these "Mini Masters" as an art exercise. Can you spot the Degas and the two Van Gogh's? How about the original composition by Ann Gorbett?
While we love the "Mini Masters," we also loved her own creations. In person you can see the texture and wonderful framing on this pine and maple tree.

Kathy Weller's work displayed on our artful ledge. Inspiring ideas for your own home? (Perhaps you would like two or three of Kathy's pieces to get this similar look.)

And here's Julie working hard to make all the pieces look fabulous---both on the gallery walls and in your home. Thanks for checking in.

The shop windows lit up at night. We were thinking of springtime when we chose that green.

Ted Rabidoux's giclee prints add a whimsical note.

Gallery Nine is delighted to have the work of illustrator Irena Roman. We're lucky to have some illustrations she did for a cookbook (you see the cookbook with illustration in this photo.) These really are a steal for the savvy art collector who is looking for that perfect piece for the kitchen.

Local Massachusetts artist John Diehl offers some recognizable landscapes with his abstract twist.

Anna Zumwalt works in ink stick with gesso on acid free board to create her wonderful abstract pieces. And Kerry Hawkins captures images from her travels with a keen eye for the somewhat unusual but certainly interesting and attractive.

Update from the Gallery Director

Busy busy busy!

I'm more than happy to report that we've been working hard implementing all our plans:

Gallery Nine is looking fabulous!







New artists are displayed and more are on the way. Artscope was published and our ad is in there (looks great) and so is our call for artists (who knows what that may bring!)

Now we're working on scheduling a show for late April (?! Too soon?), filling the schedule of artists through 2009, creating a dynamic business plan, and enjoying every minute of this frenetic activity.

What fun!
