Thanks to you!

Our letter to the Editor was published in this week's Norwood Record. We wanted everyone to know about our open-call show and the wonderful response from artists and the community.

Thanks to everyone who contributed their talents and time to participate in the show, "Life is a Bowl...."

Julie and I are appreciative of your effort on behalf of the shop and gallery.

And the winner is...

Yesterday Julie and I totaled up the votes from our "Life is a bowl..." show and the results are in!

(Intentional quasi-annoying spacing to create suspense)

It was a close race---the margin for First and Second places was just a single vote!!!

But...our...winner...is....

Nancy Connors!

And Nancy is the artist who also brought in the display of cherry themed groceries. Creative in all areas! Thank you, Nancy, for your submission, enthusiasm and support. We at Gallery 9 are thankful for all of it!

The next open-call art show will be in April with submissions due in March. Look for more information coming soon!

Window visitors

My nephew and daughter came by the gallery with my mom a few weeks ago, before the "Life is a bowl..." show and I could not resist posting the photos from their brief visit.

Here you can see Brad contemplating who is going to get his vote. Lucy is more interested in the traffic outside.
This shot clearly was when he said, "Aunt Kim, I can't choose which "Life is a bowl..." piece I like the best!"

I think he just told Lucy who he selected and she is adding her two cents before he casts his "fan favorite" ballot. He's excited about their mutual selection.

And I love this shot. You can just see my outline in the glass reflection. Cute little window visitors. (I am, obviously, biased--thanks for indulging me.)

The show comes down today and we'll be posting the "fan favorite" winning painting here. Please check back soon!

(And contributing artists, please come in for your pieces. Thanks!)

Attn: Life is a bowl... artists!

The show is coming down tomorrow and it's time to pick up your work. Please stop by as soon as you can and claim your piece.

Also, after Friday, please take a look around the gallery and see what new things we have in store.

Our next "Open Call" show will be in April. We're hopeful you'll all submit a piece again.

Thanks for your contribution to our joint success.

More reception photos from "Life is a bowl..."

Here is an assortment of additional photos from our happy reception at Gallery 9's "Life is a Bowl..." show. I thought it was appropriate to review our success since it's nearing time for it to come down.
My cutie mom looking at "Life is a bowl of Heaven and Earth" (a fabulous submission by Polo Barrera.) Our very own Edwina Caci, Gallery 9 at Custom Art Framing's own art teacher (looking spiffy in red and coordinating with our chair.)

The show spilled over into the window. What fun!

Contributing artist to the show, Jami Osborne.

Adorably, one of our submitting artists brought in cherry themed packages as props. We put them in one of Lisa W.B. Walker's bowls. Loved the look and creative thought.

It was a fun night!

Life is a bowl...Opening night photos!

What a great event!
Everyone had an awesome time and the place was packed. We had a few sales and a whole lot of schmoozing, it was a success!
It started off with people drizzling in by two's and three's and then all of a sudden we were a packed house!

We are so proud of all the contributing artists. Most came with family and friends, and many stayed until the bitter end.
I am foreseeing many more of these 'open calls' in the future, it sure is fun to see what people come up with when you let them take an idea and roll with it!

Doesn't this just look inviting?

Don't forget that this special 38 artist show is still up for critique until the end of September. Please stop by and vote for your fan favorite before September 25th.

Nancy, Julie and Kim, the Gallery 9 team!

Forgive the blurry photo (I took it myself) and the wine teeth (we like red), we were just having fun. Come by and say hello!

Life is a bowl :: Opening Reception

Our Life is a Bowl... show is hanging and I'm happy to report that people are voting for their favorite piece. This is just wonderful. I have enjoyed watching people come in and look at all the entries intently and then cast their ballot for their favorite.

Our opening receptions are coming up! Stop by if you can, Friday, Sept. 12 from 5-7 and Saturday, Sept. 13 from 11-3.

Everything is available for sale (some at a steal of a price!) and a portion of the proceeds are going to the food pantry. It's a great cause and some great artwork.

Painting taken from www.carolmarine.blogspot.com (she's from TX and not in our competition.)

Fridays are good and busy

I'm peppering this post with photos from the show, "Life is a bowl of..." to whet your appetite.
Pitfall, original oil by Zafarana
Julie and I were hard at work yesterday (with the help of Nancy MacCallum and Jennifer O'Neil for a spell, thankfully) revamping the gallery getting all in order for the show, "Life is a bowl of..." and it was fun, a lot of hard work, but ultimately quite fulfilling. I am delighted--and a bit proud--of how the gallery looks.
Life is a bowl of possibilites, original oil by Michelle Clay
For our first "open call" show, where we invited everyone to participate, we had nearly 40 entries. People would have submitted multiples if we'd have let them, too. The selection of subjects under the subject is vast and many mediums are represented, including one piece of collage that included reclaimed ivory!

Life is a bowl of Mashed Potatoes, original oil by Ann Gorbett
"The Life is a Bowl" show is set up in the front of the gallery. Further back we have displayed our Gallery 9 in-house artists. It's a nice full display of 2D work including Jude McGinn, Jennifer O'Neil, Kathy Weller, Ann Gorbett, Irena Roman, and me, Kim Morin Weineck. For 3D works we have Nancy MacCallum's jewelry, Lisa W.B. Walker's pottery, Andrew Osborne's wood turnings, and Hala Alwach's wire choker necklaces.

Life is a bowl to go, original gold-filled and silver ring by Nancy MacCallum
Kerry Hawkins, a photographer who is our First Friday artist for next Friday, September 5th from 5-7pm. We had a lovely, successful turnout for Jennifer O'Neil's inaugural First Friday so it'll be fun to have them continue.

Wait until you come by. It's quite impressive!

Press for "Life is a bowl of..."

As promised, the Norwood Record has delivered a story
about our upcoming gallery event, "Life is a Bowl of...."

Here is the story for you to read.

Reporter Krystal Grow did a nice job of expressing the gallery's point-of-view. We do hope we're an approachable spot for artists to consider displaying their work.

(I hope I don't quite look like this....)

In Thursday's paper

The reporter, Krystal Grow, of The Norwood Record informed us that the story about our gallery show, Life is a Bowl, will run next week.

Be sure to look at the paper on Thursday, August 7th for the scoop (and a photo of us in the gallery!)

We're meeting lots of artists who are bringing in submissions and telling us their thoughts about what they'll be submitting. It'll be quite a great event, surely!

Update:: Life is a bowl :: Gallery show/Charity event

So---talk about exciting!!

Krystal Grow, a reporter with the Norwood Record, just left after she interviewed me and Julie about our "Life is a Bowl" event. She had seen our calendar posting and came in to learn more.

The good news is that you should check out their free paper next Thursday, July 31st for an article about it.

She said the Record will be sure to cover the reception, too!

(Then she took a picture of me and Julie. Yikes!)

Call for Entries :: Life is a bowl :: gallery show/charity event

"Life is a bowl" is our next group show at Gallery 9 and we are bubbling over with excitement about it.

Having worked on the specifics for the past few months, we're happy to announce one big change--rather than show work only by our in-house gallery artists (what a great bunch of people they are), we're inviting EVERYONE to submit. What fun!

Julie and I are looking forward to seeing how people will interpret this phrase in all sizes, shapes, and mediums. Some artists have given us a glimpse at their creations and already it has us envisioning a dynamic show of vibrant color and composition.

Submission guidelines:
All mediums are accepted provided work can be displayed, priced, and sold.
Proper framing/display is critical as we must maintain the high standard of our gallery (and good framing often leads to quick sales).
Size cannot exceed 40"x60".
Any interpretation of the phrase "Life is a bowl" is welcome be it literal or abstract.
All work submitted must be available for sale. Work will be priced by the artist and gallery.
Sales commission will apply to sold artwork with the gallery donating half of the proceeds to the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Norwood.

Here's another reason you should submit:
For the month of September, people will be voting for their "fan favorite" from the show. The artist whose piece has the most votes will win a $200 gift certificate from Custom Art Framing to use either for framing or for a gallery purchase.

Important dates:
Deadline for drop off: August 22nd
Hanging: week of August 29th
Voting for "fan favorite": September 1st-25th
Opening reception: September 12th and 13th

Looking to add to your art collection? This show is a great time to do it!

Gallery9 will be displaying a wide variety of styles, colors, and mediums for the month of September. Take advantage of the show to add the perfect piece to your home. Purchases may be made at any time during the sale and picked up after September 25th when the show comes down.

The fine print:
The gallery reserves the right to refuse any artwork for any reason.
Reasons may include size, subject, content, space limitations, and, you know...how do you say?...just not being appropriate for the show.

The gallery is a business so we have to use our business brain.
